15일 법조계에 따르면 서울중앙지법 형사합의25-2부(부장판사 박정제·박사랑·박정길)는 특수강도, 인질강도 방조 혐의로 기소된 A(41)씨에게 지난 2일 징역 3년을 선고했다.
A씨는 필리핀에서 운영되는 불법 스포츠토토 사이트 운영사의 직원으로, 운영자 B씨가 사이트를 타인에게 처분하려던 사실을 알게 되자 2019년 2월 다른 직원들과 함께 B씨를 납치하고 B씨의 배우자 C씨를 협박한 혐의로 재판에 넘겨졌다.
당시 A씨는 B씨에게 전화를 걸어 자신의 집으로 오게 했고, 다른 직원들과 함께 B씨를 폭행한 뒤 신체를 결박해 약 1개월간 감금한 것으로 조사됐다.
A씨를 제외한 일당은 B씨의 휴대전화를 빼앗은 뒤 C씨를 협박해 같은 해 3월 700만페소(한화 약 1억6000만원)를 B씨로부터 받아냈는데, A씨는 이 과정을 감시하며 인질강도 범행을 방조한 혐의도 받는다.
재판부는 "범행 경위와 결과에 비춰 볼 때 죄질이 불량하고, 피해자들이 범행 과정에서 상당한 공포심을 느꼈을 것으로 보인다"고 지적했다.
